If it is your home

Data about your property.

Anyone can type a New Zealand address into our free property check. The blue dots it shows mark where a satellite can measure. This page says what a dot is, what it is not, and what you can ask us.

What a blue dot is.

Each blue dot marks a spot where a radar satellite gets a steady echo back, usually from a roof, paving, a wall or rock.

Each dot is a place where SatSense has a movement record. A record may show movement, or very little. The dot itself does not show which.

A dot appears because of the surface, not because of how much a spot moves. Dots form on suitable surfaces across the whole country. No home has been picked out.

A dot is not a warning and it is not a rating of any home.

What the free map does not show.

  • No rate, no colour scale and no rating. Every dot looks the same.
  • No names. The free check does not look up or show who owns a property.
  • No dot does not mean no movement. Grass, gardens, bush and water rarely give a steady echo, so they usually have no dots.
  • Dot positions are approximate. A dot near a fence may be on the next section.

If someone enters their email in the free check, we keep the address they checked with it. Clause 12 of our terms lists what is kept.

What a paid report shows.

Rates are worked out only in a paid Land Movement Report, for the area the buyer chooses.

A report is made from satellite readings and public records. It is not a building inspection or an engineering assessment.

Further than 5 m outside the area the buyer chose, a report shows only where points are, never their rates. Positions are approximate, so a point near a boundary can be placed on the other side of it. The report marks points close to the line.

A report is sent to the person who orders it.

What you can ask us for.

What we hold. You can ask what information LandSure holds about you or your home, and ask us to correct it. You do not need to own the property to ask this.

How to ask. Email support@landsure.ai with the property address and your question. We reply within 20 working days.

If a fact is wrong.

If you believe a fact on the map or in a report is wrong, for example the wrong property, tell us and we will check it. If it concerns where a point sits, we will ask you whether we may send what you give us to SatSense, who make the measurements, and we will tell you their answer. LandSure does not change SatSense's measurements itself.

Sources and your rights.

The radar images come from Sentinel-1, part of the European Union's Copernicus programme. EU law makes Sentinel-1 data free and open; the European Space Agency operates the satellites. SatSense Ltd, a United Kingdom company, processes the images into measurement points, and LandSure uses those points with SatSense's permission. Property boundaries come from Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). LandSure is not affiliated with or endorsed by the European Union or the European Space Agency.

Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2015–2026, processed by SatSense Ltd. Contains data sourced from the LINZ Data Service licensed for reuse under CC BY 4.0.

Your rights to see and correct information about you come from the Privacy Act 2020. If we do not make a correction you ask for, you can ask us to attach your statement of the correction you sought, and we will. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

The LandSure Privacy Officer reads every request, keeps a record of it and replies within 20 working days. The full privacy terms are in clause 12 of LandSure's terms.
